WHY SELF APPRECIATION IS IMPORTANT!

I actually thought I'd be able to stay on top of the 52 week Gratitude Challenge, turns out I'm a bit behind... however week ten states 'list 5 things you like about you', and this is somewhat of an unpopular subject to many, talking about themselves and acknowledging all the good, SAY WHAT?! I certainly don't do this, but it's something that is so important for your positivity and self esteem, if I have to do this, then I'm making you too..

Yeah, you heard me. I challenge you to tell yourself 5 things you like about you, you can even write it below in the comments if you're feeling confident, spread that self loving hun!! P.s. sorry for the most random photos, I never know what to use with these type of posts, so behold my scenic photography!!
Right. This is definitely a Gratitude 'Challenge', I'm racking my brain right now..

I like the fact that I am lucky and blessed, I have a supportive family, a roof over my head, food on my plate, I'm lucky enough to have luxuries, which I do not take for granted. I'm grateful to be alive and well, living in the country I do, surrounded by the people I am. I think sometimes it's easy to get caught up in the moment and start taking your life for granted.

I also like how sensitive and emotional I am... even though sometimes I complain about it, as I mean crying every single time I see an animal (namely dogs), or watch a film, or see someone or something, gets a little tiring and the people around me are like "Seriously Peony Kiera, that's the fifth time you've cried today over that video", "Peony Kiera, stop talking to the dogs", haha I'm a crazy dog lady what can I say. But in retrospect, I like being that way. I think it shows off some of my favourite characteristics, such as being caring, considerate and loving.

You don't have to mention physical traits, as I think that is something that people put themselves down about, I think it's easier for ourselves to acknowledge what we like best about our personality, which is quite sad really... I wish it was easy for all of us to look in the mirror and instantly smile at our features, recognise our flaws but accept them for what they are, and just see ourselves as beautiful. It's easier said than done. Whenever I look in the mirror I'm like "Oh dear, have I gone out looking like that all day". Just take some time to recognise the little things. I'll take a whack at it (Parent Trap anyone?) and try my very best... I like my skin, I've been lucky to never really get spots on my face, and this has allowed me to be more confident in not wearing makeup. I like that I don't feel I always have to wear it! I like the length and colour of my hair, and the colours of my eyes intrigue me. I like my teeth, my freckles, and I like how I look when I go out places, so when I put my makeup on, do my hair, wear my best clothes, I know I should feel pretty regardless of this, but this is when I feel most confident and comfortable in my skin. Makeup is definitely not the be all and end all, but if you feel confident and beautiful wearing it, then go you! If you prefer to be a natural beauty, then go you!! Just do you. Just do what makes you feel best!

So there are some physical traits I like about myself, but I also love some aspects of my personality and character. I think if you're a nice and good person, you're beautiful. Personality always wins, it always reflects through your physical appearance in my opinion, my favourite quote sums this up perfectly, as Roald Dahl said "If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your faee like sunbeams, and you will always look lovely". Think happy, positive thoughts and smile, smile at everyone, even strangers, that's true beauty. Be kind, caring and loving to everyone you meet, be grateful for everything and everyone around you, you can't get more beautiful than that.

So basically self appreciation is important because it allows you to be a happier and more positive person, if you think negatively about yourself, your mind will just produce negative thoughts... and who wants that? So why don't you start appreciating yourself and all your flaws and beauty, and then your mind will be full of gratitude, positivity, and happiness, wouldn't you rather that instead? It's something I definitely need to work on, I've had negative thoughts about myself since I was little. There's nothing wrong with a little vanity. Walk past that mirror, strut your stuff, and DO YOU! You'll feel a lot better once you come to realise you can't change who you are, these flaws you see and hate, is someones favourite part about you. That is honestly my favourite way to look at it, it makes me feel all happy inside!! You might hear your friend complaining about how she hates her hair, or how your partner hates his smile, or how your family member hates that there too forgiving, but that might be your favourite thing about them. If it is, then tell them! There's nothing better than a nice compliment, especially when they compliment something that you personally hate about yourself! Whenever someone says something nice about me I'm like REALLY?! It's just a nice feeling knowing that not everyone sees your flaws as faults, people see you as beautiful, and will love you for who you are!!

A lil cheesy post, but this gratitude challenge actually makes me step back and appreciate what I have in my life, I really recommend you doing this with me! I'll link my other posts from this challenge if you fancy having a look!

  1. Lovely post Peony Kiera! It was very inspiring and motivating to read. Self love is so important. It can be so hard to love yourself, but when you do, you start noticing changes within how you feel and your confidence increases. This is something I'm always working on and hope to improve massively one day :) xx

  3. I loved reading this, Peony Kiera! This is such a beautiful and inspiring post. Self appreciation is very important and is not very easy to do. I love how unique my hair color is, I like my height and that I'm not too tall. I like how stubborn and determined I can get. I also like that I am very open-minded. And I loooove that I can make others laugh with my weird humor. And I believe that's 5 things already! :)

  6. What an excellent idea, so refreshing and rejuvenating! It is very true that many people find it hard to acknowledge the things we are good at, or that we like about ourselves. well, here goes:
    1. I love my hair, its very unique and I love how it has such a life of its own.
    2. I love that I can sing, its one of my greatest pleasures in life.
    3. I love how I can put myself in the positions of many different types of people, and therefore understand them.
    4. I love my job, and what I am studying in college (english lit).
    5. I absolutely love my blog, and the way it lets me express myself in so many different ways.
    Cheers!

  7. LOVE this post! I hate that people feel that they have to be hard on themselves, or think self love is vain when it's the opposite. It's so important to love yourself and feel confident in who you are x

  8. This is a really great and inspiring post, self appreciation is super important and leads to a better life. I honestly wish we could all just accept ourselves for who we are. I once watched a really interesting video and it basically contained the massage that we are neither good or bad, ugly or pretty, we are just who we are - these are all concepts made up by society. And it's true, we all have a different definition of beauty and should embrace that. The things I like about myself are that I'm ambitious, determined, creative and that I'm a fast learner. Oh and I also like my skin because I've never had problems with it either. :) xx

  9. Awwww this is such a beautiful and inspirational post. I celebrate people who know their value and appreciate themselves this way, because it's a damn difficult thing to do. But why shouldn't we accept ourselves instead of putting ourselves down all the time? x
